WINELANDS

The winelands are easily accessible from Cape Town and, with a vast array of award-winning wines, should not be missed if you are visiting the Western Cape.

Dramatic mountain ranges, a patchwork of vineyards, isolated historic or modern farmsteads, characterise this area.

Discover the vineyards of Franschhoek by tram, or take in the scenery by horseback. Enjoy a family picnic at Warwick Wine Estate or fine-dining at Delaire. Visitors are welcomed and encouraged to enjoy tastings and tours.

Towns in the Cape Winelands include the historic university town of Stellenbosch. Similarly, scenic towns such as Paarl and Somerset West offer visitors a more tranquil and peaceful appreciation of the Cape surrounds, while remaining in close proximity to the city. Picturesque, quaint Franschhoek, which translates to “French corner”, is a foodie’s heaven, and lays claim to 8 of the top 100 restaurants of the country. If you don’t wish to venture too far, then the Constantia wine route is located 20 minutes’ drive from Cape Town’s city bowl. It is astoundingly beautiful, rich in heritage, and offers some of the finest examples of Cape Dutch architecture. Equally, if you fancy something a little more rustic and off-the-beaten-track, then the Swartland area is one to consider.
