RIFT VALLEY LAKES

Lake Nakuru is one of the Great Rift Valley’s soda lakes and is protected by the Nakuru National Park.   Located within 2 hours’ drive of Nairobi, it is most famous for the phenomenal sight of pink clouds of greater and lesser flamingos in flight.

Lake Navaisha is the highest of the Rift Valley lakes and is nestled in one of the prime flower-growing regions. It offers an abundance of birdlife and hippos. Given its close proximity to Nairobi (a 1-hour drive), it is a popular stop-over at the start or finish of one’s Kenyan adventure.

Activities include a visit to a flower farm, a picnic on Crescent Island, game-and bird-viewing by boat and, for the fit and adventurous, a hike up Mount Longonot, a dormant volcano offering breathtaking views from the crater’s rim.
